BBL 2021-22: Aaron Finch Likely To Return To Melbourne Renegades

Australia’s limited-overs captain, Aaron Finch was instrumental in the 2021 T20 WC. The squad won their first T20 World Cup under his guidance. In 7 matches, he scored 135 runs with a strike rate of 116.37.

Finch, though, has been unable to play a single match since the T20 World Cup owing to knee pain. It was due to his knee surgical treatment that he was unable to compete in the event in the 1st place. And that he will play for his Big Bash League side, the Melbourne Renegades, versus the Perth Scorchers on 22nd December.

[The recovery] was just hampered by the World Cup. We pushed really hard to get back for that and it was a risk well worth taking, but it just probably needed a little bit more time,” Finch said.

I’ll hit a lot of balls in the next couple of days: Aaron Finch

Finch also stated that the fact that he has not played a match since the World Cup has helped him to regain his fitness. He also stated that he was fully prepared to strike a large number of balls in the following days.

From the end of the World Cup to now has been a good, solid month of rehab, which has helped. I’ll hit a lot of balls in the next couple of days and I’m feeling good at the moment,” Finch said.

Renegades has contested 3 matches and has only won one of them. The squad won their first match by 2 runs in the final over versus the Adelaide Strikers. However, the side went on to lose the following 2 matchups versus the Strikers and the Brisbane Heat.

Aaron Finch, the 2nd most prolific run-scorer in BBL era, will help the Renegades’ batting order, which features an inexperienced top order. “The last couple of games, batting second, a little bit of inexperience probably creates a bit of chaos at times,” Finch said.

[Mackenzie] Harvey has started off beautifully and the way Zahir [Khan] has joined the group and done really well has been really impressive,” he added.

But you couldn’t ask for a huge amount more from a really young group of guys who haven’t played much T20 cricket. “[When your top six is inexperienced] you’re always going to have your back against the wall but it’s something that we knew was going to happen a few weeks ago,Finch mentioned this regarding the team’s performance.
