Following Australia’s victory in the T20 WC earlier this month, Finch has been resting his injured knee, which caused him so much discomfort during the remaining matches that he couldn’t field anywhere but only the 1st slip.
Finch is yet to be seen at the nets and will not participate in a series of practice matches slated this week, despite having given up the leadership after 9 seasons in command of the Renegades. Finch, who became a father during the World Cup, will overlook the Renegades’ 1st BBL play on 07 December and may not be ready until the 3rd or 4th match.
Nic Maddinson was picked ahead by interim coach David Saker, and he’s also traveling with the Australia A squad and won’t be likely to participate in the Renegades till the middle of December.

With experienced batter Shaun Marsh out until Christmas with a calf strain and is still in Western Australia, the Renegades may have to rely on Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi, who guided his nation to the T20 World Cup.
Experienced pace bowler James Pattinson seems to be another choice for the Renegades, who are trying to turn around 2 years of poor performance, having placed last in each of the previous 2 seasons, which led to the departure of the coach Michael Klinger.
Finch stated that he overworked his body at the World Cup and wanted to rest. “I pushed the rehab really hard and probably paid the price for it a little bit throughout the tournament,” he said last week. “I may need a bit more time off at the moment to get that right.”
Former England international Reece Topley heads the Renegades’ foreign lineup, having been a member of the England team in the T20 World Cup. He stated that he intends to utilize his time in the BBL to push for a spot in England’s team for the next year’s T20 WC, which will be held in Australia.
“It’s obviously an opportunity and it’s one that I hope to take and hopefully try and impress the right people,“ said Topley.
“Being around in Dubai, I felt I was ready if the opportunity came. Unfortunately, it never did. But you know, it was nice to have this lined up for when I left there. And it’s going to be a great opportunity to get some playing time after being on the sidelines for a month or so.”
