5 Current Cricketers Who Aren’t Made For T20I Cricket

T20I cricket has evolved significantly right since its inception. The earlier slam-bang version is now a calculated format of the game. Players have evolved largely too. They have developed specific skillsets to counter the format. Players are given well-defined roles and are expected to fulfill them. But there are certain cricketers who haven’t been able to adapt to the shortest format. They have struggled to come to terms with T20Is. Here is Cricketers Who Aren’t Made For T20I.

We look at 5 such current cricketers who aren’t made for T20I cricket:

#5 Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara has always been questioned about his strike rate. He scores so slowly in Tests that he has forever been labelled a Test specialist. Pujara has played 64 T20 games. He averages a decent 29.47 but his strike rate of 109.35 is a big problem. Pujara has played five consecutive IPL seasons since 2010. He played 30 games averaging 20.52 but with a strike rate of a shocking 99.74. Pujara has just hit 16 sixes in his overall T20 career. He surely isn’t cut out for T20I cricket.

#4 Dom Sibley

Dom Sibley has played a total of 35 T20 games. He scores at a reasonable strike rate too (121.29) with an average of 29.62. But Sibley looks so short of run-scoring abilities that he will surely be tested at the top level. England’s T20I team operates on an altogether different level. Sibley won’t find it easy to be a part of their T20I squad.

#3 Dean Elgar

Dean Elgar has played a total of 79 T20 games. He averages a solid 34.52. But his strike rate of 111.37 is a big dampener. Elgar has hit a plethora of 141 boundaries but has just 53 maximums to his name. He surely isn’t someone for T20I cricket.

#2 Hanuma Vihari

Hanuma Vihari is another contemporary cricketer who has struggled in T20 cricket. He has played 24 IPL games. But his numbers are nothing short of disastrous. He averages 14.20 while his strike rate is a lowly 88.47. Overall he has played 74 matches but averages a paltry 20 with a strike rate of 112.35. Vihari isn’t T20 material.

#1 Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav’s perennial problem has been his economy. In the last couple of seasons, Yadav has leaked runs at a rate of 11 while picking up just 8 wickets. His overall T20I numbers are quite bleak too. He has picked 148 wickets in 148 games conceding runs at 8.36. Yadav too isn’t a T20I prospect.
