Sachin Tendulkar to lead India legends in second season of Road Safety World Series

The wish of millions of cricket fans to see Sachin Tendulkar back on cricket field is going to be true soon as the batting legend is all set to feature in the second season of Road Safety World Series, starting on September 10.

In the government supported event, Tendulkar also be seen captaining the defending champions Indian Legends, the organisers made the announcement on Thursday.

The tournament is supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Information and Technology and Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India.

The 22-day competition will take place at several locations beginning on September 10. Kanpur will host the tournament’s first match, while Raipur will play host to the two semifinals matches and the title match on October 1.

According to a media release, there are additional locations in Indore and Dehradun.

The New Zealand Legends are the new participants in this edition, and they will play alongside the legends of India, England, Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies, Australia, and Sri Lanka during the event, which is primarily played to raise awareness of road safety in the nation and around the world.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said, “I am sure the Road Safety World Series will drive social change and work as an ideal platform to influence people’s mind-set towards their behaviour on the road and road safety.”

Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari said, “The Road Safety World Series is a very good initiative to create awareness towards road safety through cricket.

“We want every individual in this country to be aware and obey every rules and regulations while on the road and for that to happen, we have to create awareness among the people, I strongly believe that this series will be able to do and achieve the goal of saving lives on Indian roads.”

In the first season of the RSWS, Tendulkar had led India Legends to triumph with a victory over Sri Lanka Legends in the final match.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced the season to be spread out over two years. The first season, which began in 2020 but was interrupted by the pandemic when the nation fell into lockdown, was eventually finished in 2021 after being resumed.
