Rohit Sharma On India’s Performance In The 2021 T20 World Cup, “Don’t agree that we played cautious cricket.”

Before the impending five-match T20I series against the West Indies, captain Rohit Sharma refuted claims that India played a cautious brand of cricket during the 2021 T20 World Cup. After suffering two straight losses, India was unable to advance to the knockout rounds, and they were subjected to a great deal of criticism, especially the batters.

But up until the most recent England series, India had never lost a T20I series under the direction of Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid. They had also chosen to bat more aggressively. India’s strategy has been pretty successful despite losing a strange game.

In the T20 World Cup 2021 , Rohit clarified that India hadn’t played poorly or conservatively and refuted the claim that India didn’t take any risks. He remarked on India’s great run leading up to the World Cup and questioned whether a cautious approach would yield similar outcomes.

We didn’t win the World Cup, but it doesn’t mean we didn’t play well: Rohit Sharma

“Just because we didn’t win the World Cup doesn’t imply that we played poorly,” the player said. The idea that we were playing conservative cricket is not one I share. It appears that we did not take any risks if you lose 1-2 games in the World Cup. In the games we played before to the World Cup, we came out on top 80% of the time. When you are cautious, how do you manage to win so many games? I don’t get it, Rohit remarked.

“Though it can happen, we lost the World Cup. We weren’t playing freely, so that cannot be what happened. Recently, we have just allowed gamers more flexibility to express themselves; it’s not like we entirely changed everything.”

Furthermore, Rohit emphasized the need of realizing that since the team has been experimenting, failures are inevitable.

“The people on the outside should keep calm. The way we are playing cricket, there will be mistakes and the outcomes might not be what we want them to be, but that is alright because we are attempting something. It is possible for mistakes to be made, but this does not imply that the players are incompetent. Everyone must change throughout time, and since we are evolving, that outside of us must also evolve, he remarked.
