Eventually, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bat first. RR got off to a terrible start, losing opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal for only three runs in the 2nd over of the innings, bowled by Yash Dayal. However, Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson forged a vital wicket-partnership to secure the innings. The pair put in a vital 68-run stand for the wicket.

Meanwhile, by removing Samson 47 (26), Sai Kishore gave GT a leg start on shattering the established stand. The following batsman, Devdutt Padikkal, added 28 (20) to stand up alone with settled hitter Buttler before being removed by GT captain Hardik Pandya. After this wicket, RR seemed to be in big trouble, with no other batsman in the order even reach the double figures. The middle-order collapsed when Mohammed Shami dismissed Shimron Hetmyer for four runs.

Jos Buttler scored 89 (56) with the angled bat, including 12 fours and two sixes. He produced masterful innings to help RR to post 189 run target for GT, before being removed for a run-out, which cost RR 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Gujarat too had a slow start in chase of the respectable total, as they lost the first batter, Wriddhiman Saha, for a golden duck. Meanwhile, the next batters, Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade, gained momentum and contributed 71 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill was removed for a run-out after scoring 35 off 21 balls, comprising 5 fours and 1 six. Wade subsequently lost the momentum, who was bowled out for 35 off 30 balls by Obed McCoy. At the time, RR appeared to be on favourable side to win. But,  Hardik Pandya and David Miller led the way for the team aiming to reach the finals. The duo made a significant stand, especially ‘Killer’ Miller, who was at his best, sweating the RR bowlers who punished the ball hard to every part of the field.

As the scenario shifted to 16 runs off 6 balls, Prasidh Krishna served the last over to limit the well-established batsman Miller, who was on strike. Miller, on the other hand, has been brutal against his former side, striking the ball hard with back-to-back three sixes to cross the finish line in 19.3 overs.

As a consequence, the Titans reached the major milestone with 3 balls to spare, won by 7 wickets. Furthermore, RR will have another chance to qualify for the finals when they play the winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
