England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler frustrated with lack of training time

The newly appointed captain of England Jos Buttler opened up about his frustration with lack of training time after ended the South Africa series at equal level 1-1 at Headingley, Leeds on Sunday.

After the 2019 World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan announced his retirement from the international cricket later last month, Jos Buttler was chosen to replace him. But, Buttler, who was the deputy to Eoin Morgan for quite some time, is searching for his first series victory as captain.

Under his captaincy, England lost to India by 2-1 in T20Is, while later they faced defeat in the ODIs as well by 2-1.

Just after the India’s tour to England, South Africa reached England to play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2-match test series.

Ben Stokes announced retirement from ODI cricket

Before the commencement of the series, English side witnessed a huge blow as England’s 2019 World Cup hero and the current test skipper Ben Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format after describing his situation for choosing not to play the 50-over format.

The 31-year-old Stokes feels that his body needs some rest as he is ‘unsustainable’ to play all three formats. England side didn’t manage to give him a proper farewell as they lost the first ODI by 62 runs.

However, they bounced back in the second ODI and defeated the visitors by 118 runs to let the final ODI decide the series winner. But, the rain out shadowed the chances of Jos Buttler to claim his first-ever series win as captain as the match was called-off due to rain.

England’s white-ball fixtures in July 2022

England have so far played 9 whit-ball games in 25 days of this month. They have to play 3 more T20 games in this month, totaling there tally to 12 limited-over games in July 2022, including a one-off test against India.

The new skipper while expressing his thoughts about the jam-packed schedule of the English side said, “To get the highest standard of cricket possible, you need to prepare properly. Hopefully that’s something we can look at going forward. As a new captain, just having that time to bed in and do that work around your players and with your coaches. That’s been a frustration to be truthfully honest – it would be nice to have that time to do the work.

I think those training days are really important for that team cohesion, the energy within the group, the fielding drills, the camaraderie around the guys without the pressure of a game. And they’re really vital to high performance.” He added.

England and South Africa will start the T20I battle on July 27 at County Ground in Bristol.
