Nothing is going in the favor of the Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal and the scenario looks the same as was with Ravindra Jadeja when he was the captain of CSK.
The 31-year-old Agarwal was appointed the Punjab Kings captain for IPL 2022 season after their previous 2 season’s skipper KL Rahul opted out and joined the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants.
Since the start of IPL 2022, Punjab Kings saw mixed results, they earned a reputation of 1 win and 1 loose team, they are playing like they win 1 and then lose the other.
Besides that, the major concern for the franchise in IPL 2022 is there captain’s own performance. Agarwal, who scored 400 plus runs in both the previous seasons, failed to perform in this season so far.
In the 12 games he played, he scored just 195 runs at an average of 17.73 and with a strike rate of 125.00.
Apart from that, he also had demoted himself in the batting order after couple of failure as opener. But even after playing at no.4 or no.5 position he was able to deliver and got out cheaply after having a start that left the Punjab side in trouble many times in this year’s tournament.
In the 64th game against Delhi Capitals, Punjab were required to chase 160 runs, and when they lost three wickets at 55, Mayank was at the crease and was required to play a sensible innings to help his team reach the target, but he was unable to score a single run and as a result Punjab lost the game in pressure.
This story is somewhere similar to Ravindra Jadeja’s one. Jadeja, who was appointed as the CSK skipper 2 days before the commencement of IPL 2022, was seen clueless while captaining the side and in his captaincy CSK lost 6 games out 8 before the stepped down from the role.
The captaincy pressure was visible on Jadeja’s performance, as he scored just 112 runs in eight games as a captain at an average of 22.41.
Punjab Kings are currently on 7th place on the points table with only 1 game left in the league stage, and they have to win their last match at any cost to might qualify for playoffs.
But, a lot will depend on RCB and DC games as Punjab side will only qualify if RCB and DC both lose their final two games and Punjab wins their last match with big margin.
