ICC has recently updated the rankings for women in cricket. Topping the chart for batting is Alyssa Healy of Australia. England’s Sophie Ecclestone has taken the number one spot for bowling. ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings
India’s Jhulan Goswami has acquired the sixth position in bowling which is a downfall for her. For batting, Smriti Mandhana stands at the eighth position. India makes it into the top 10 in both lists.
After dominating performances for the Proteas during their recent ODI series sweep over Ireland, the ICC revealed the updated rankings on Tuesday, and glamorous opener Laura Wolvaardt and seasoned quick Ayabonga Khaka have been the major beneficiaries.
In the third and final game in Dublin, Wolvaardt’s outstanding 89-run innings arrived at the perfect time, propelling the right-hander over Australia captain Meg Lanning and into the fourth position on the most recent batter rankings.
It was the only change among the top 10 hitters, although fellow South African Lara Goodall, who scored 143 runs in the series to lead all scorers, jumped up a remarkable 15 spots to 43rd after a perfect 93 in the second game.
Khaka, who rose two spots to sixth following a good series against Ireland, made the largest impact on the bowler rankings in the meanwhile.
Khaka only took two wickets in the series, but the right-arm was virtually unplayable for many of the young Irish hitters and concluded the three games with an astonishing economy rate of only 1.40.
In the most recent bowler rankings, behind England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who is now in the first position, Khaka moved up one spot to fifth, passing veteran teammate Marizanne Kapp and India pacer Jhulan Goswami.
Sune Luus, the captain of South Africa, rose four spots to ninth place among all-rounders. Nat Sciver of England continues to hold the #1 all-rounder position.
Following their impressive efforts in the second game, Ireland’s Sophie MacMahon (up 31 ranks to No. 95) and Georgina Dempsey (up 56 spaces to No. 90) were among the top gainers in the batters list. Dempsey moved up the all-rounders’ rankings as well, moving up 22 positions to 80th place.
Arlene Kelly, who gained across departments, was the biggest mover from the Irish camp. She rose 58 ranks to No. 90 on the bowlers’ list, 53 spots to No. 94 on the all-rounders’ chart, and 52 spots to No. 146 on the batting list.
