IND-W Vs SL-W
Indian women’s cricket team are aiming to secure the series when they walk into the field in the second T20 international against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on Saturday.
India’s limited-overs team made a good start in Sri Lanka with a 34-run victory in the series opener on Thursday.
In addition to trying to win the three-match series on Saturday, the Harmanpreet-led side wants to keep up its winning streak before the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where women’s cricket will make its T20 debut. The Birmingham Games will take place from July 28 to August 8.
Before the bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, choked the Lankan hitters in the first game of the series. Indians recorded a modest 138 for six after choosing to bat. However, India’s batting display in the first game was far from impressive. Richa Ghosh (11), Harmanpreet Kaur (22), and Shafali Verma (31), among others, all received starts but were unable to turn them into significant knocks.
Harmanpreet all set to break Mitahli Raj’s record:
On Saturday, Harmanpreet will be looking to surpass the legendary Mithali Raj in T20s after failing in the last game. She only needs 24 runs to surpass the previous record of highest run-getter for India in this format. In 89 games, Mithali scored 2364 runs before announcing retirement in all forms of cricket.
Having failed in the previous game, Harmanpreet will be hoping to eclipse the legendary Mithali Raj in the shortest format. She needs just 24 runs to become the highest run-getter from India in this format. Mithali, who recently retired from all forms of cricket, had scored 2364 run from 89 games.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghana had an off day at work in the first game. But they need to perform well in second match to help India post significant total. While Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, will lead the death overs challenge to help India reach a strong total.
Team India squad:
India: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Simran Bahadur, Yastika Bhatia, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Richa Ghosh (WK), Sabbhineni Meghana, Meghna Singh, Poonam Yadav, Renuka Singh, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Radha Yadav.
