Rishabh Pant Clarifies Why He Didn’t Opt For DRS Against MI’s Tim David

Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) competed in the 69th fixture of the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were able to climb into the top-4 of the overall standings owing to a victory by the MI against the DC, which prevented Delhi from qualifying for the playoffs. After getting off to a tough start, the Rishabh-led side did all they could to fight their way back into the game. Unfortunately, they made a mistake in judgment that enabled the game to get away from them. Here in this article, we have talked about Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant clarifies Why he didn’t opt for DRS.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant made the decision not to examine what seemed to be an outside edge for Tim David during the 15th over of the Mumbai Indians’ innings. This decision set everything into effect. Although it looked like the all-rounder from Australia had nicked a ball from Shardul Thakur, the on-field umpire judged that it was not out.

Rishabh Pant opted without requesting a review of the decision, regardless of the fact that he didn’t appeal loudly from behind the wickets. Before he made the choice to not examine the on-field umpire’s verdict, it was seen that he was having a discussion with his teammates.

“It’s hard but we got to take it on our chin and learn from it. I thought there was something (about not reviewing the Tim David caught behind). Everyone standing in the circle wasn’t convinced and in the end, I didn’t go up”, said Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant.

Pant provided an explanation after the game for why he did not go to examine the verdict. Pant said that he wasn’t sure whether David had nicked the ball, so he went to his teammates to get their opinions on the matter. Pant continued by saying that everyone viewing within the 30-yard circle was certain that David had not clipped the ball, and because of this, he did not condemn the call made by the on-field umpire.

The Delhi Capitals were on the approach of entering their 4th straight final, but their playoffs streak was wrecked as they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets. In order to compete for their first Indian Premier League championship, the team captained by Rishabh Pant would have to hold out for another year.

“I heard a noise but I wasn’t sure, but when they didn’t review, I thought let’s crack on, that’s how the game is”, said Tim David on review not taken.

Nevertheless, the Capitals did make it all the way to the championship game once, in the year 2020, when they were led by the captain-coach pair of Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting at the time. The Capitals have never clinched an Indian Premier League season in the whole history of the competition.
