Bhuvneshwar Kumar creates history, achieves record for most T20I powerplay wickets

Star Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar created history of taking the most wickets in the powerplay in the history of shortest format of the game, T20Is.

The swing magician achieved this feat during the first T20I against Ireland on Sunday. He trapped the captain of Ireland in the fifth ball of the first over of the innings to complete his 34th powerplay wicket in T20I.

Previously, Samuel Badree of West Indies and Tim Southee along with Bhuvi were sharing this honour, but after dismissing Andrew Balbirnie in the first over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar proudly surpassed them.

After winning the toss the Indian skipper Hardik Pandya decided to bowl first. His decision turned out to be right as India got rid of three of Ireland’s key batters for just 22. India received a wicket from Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the opening over. While and Captain Hardik Pandya struck in the second. After that, Avesh Khan too bagged a wicket.

Tector and Lorcan Tucker, on the other hand, maintained composure under pressure and led Ireland to towards total. To steady their boat, they both put in a strong 50-run partnership.

Tucker was out after making 18 runs, but Harry Tector made an undefeated 64 to help Ireland gave headache to the powerful India with a total of 108 for four in 12 overs.

After multiple rain delays, the game was earlier changed from a 2o-over battle to a 12-over competition.

India then completed chase in 9.2 overs, scoring 111 for three. With a 47 off 29 balls, Deepak Hooda played an unbeaten knock. Ishan Kishan 26 off 11 balls. While Hardik Pandya scored a much-needed 24 off 12 balls to help his side win.

Hooda, who usually bats in the middle order, started the innings with Ishan Kishan and remained not out till the end.

Man of the Match 

Yuzvendra Chahal was awarded as the man of the match for his exceptional bowling spell of 11 for 1 in 3 overs.

The second T20 will take place at the Castle Avenue in Dublin on June 28.
