A hat-trick by Alana King aids Trent Rockets in defending 119

Who Has The First Hat-Trick in the Women’s Hundred?

Alana King scored the first hat-trick in the Women’s Hundred as she led Trent Rockets to a 43-run victory against Manchester Originals on Saturday in a low-scoring match at Old Trafford (August 13). After a top-order blip, Rockets came back to score 119/5, with Abigail Freeborn striking an undefeated 45 off 38. When King went through the middle order and assisted the Rockets in bowling the opponents out for only 76, the Originals, who had already lost early wickets in the chase, were further alarmed.

Lizelle Lee’s promising innings were also interrupted by Kathryn Bryce, who also dismissed Emma Lamb for a duck and had a stellar performance with only two runs allowed in 12 deliveries. Deandra Dottin was returned for zero runs, giving King her first wicket.

Sarah Glenn broke up Amy Satterthwaite’s vigilant outing, leaving the Originals at 37/4. King, who finished with 4-15 from her 20 deliveries, dismissed Cordelia Griffith, Sophie Ecclestone, and Kate Cross in quick succession to make it 45/7. The Originals’ lower order was helpless since they were bowled out with 13 deliveries left to bowl.

When the Rockets were called to bat earlier, Elyse Villani left the team early, and Marie Kelly and Mignon du Preez didn’t contribute significantly to the score. After a strong start, Bryony Smith collapsed, leaving the Rockets at 43/4 after 36 deliveries.

The Rockets finished with close to 120 as Freeborn took control, hitting seven fours in a fast-paced inning with assistance from Katherine Brunt and King.

Let us have a look at Brief results from the match: Trent Rockets defeated Manchester Originals by 43 runs with a total of 119/5 in 100 balls (Abigail Freeborn 45*; Deandra Dottin 2-21); Lizelle Lee had 17; Alana King had 4-15, and Kathryn Bryce had 2-2).
