Shubman Gill’s 55-ball 126 gave Punjab the advantage over Karnataka in a high-scoring first quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Punjab won by nine runs.
When Punjab lost the toss, they were sent to bat. In his commanding knock, Gill maintained his excellent form with the willow, smashing 11 fours and nine sixes. As Punjab scored an outstanding 225/4, Anmolpreet Singh also made an impressive 59 off 43.
Karnataka’s pursuit got off to a terrible start, falling to 18/3 in the third over. In Karnataka’s amazing comeback, Abhinav Manohar (62* off 29), Manish Pandey (45* off 29), Manoj Bhandage (25* off 9) and Krishnappa Gowtham (30* off 14) worked together. Even so, they came up short, scoring 216/6 and lost the match by 9 runs.
Vidarbha vs Delhi – 2nd Quarterfinal

In a last-ball thriller, Vidarbha defeated Delhi by one run in the second quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022–23 at the Jadavpur University Campus in Kolkata. Vidarbha, which was given the bat after losing the toss, scored a respectable 157/5. Akshay Wadkar, the team’s captain, got the most points, 63 off 53, while Shubham Dubey had an excellent cameo, scoring 29* in 13 balls.
Yash Dhull finished for Delhi with an undefeated 39, while the pursuing team finished on 156/6. With six wickets in hand, Delhi just needed 10 runs off the last over to win. To conclude with outstanding numbers of 4/29, Yash Thakur removed Lalit Yadav for 17 and Lakshay Thareja for 4. Aditya Sarwate also performed admirably, posting a 2/16 from four overs.
Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh – 3rd Quarterfinal

At the third quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022–23 at the Videocon Academy Ground in Saltair, Kolkata, Himachal Pradesh defeated Bengal by four wickets.
After bowling first, Himachal Pradesh gave up 199/6 as Bengal’s Shahbaz Ahmed scored 59 runs in 32 balls. As Bengal put up a strong batting effort, Ritwik Chowdhury (32* off 11) and Agniv Pan (28 off 10) both contributed with useful runs.
In response, Akash Vasisht (76* off 42) and Nikhil Gangta both played outstanding innings to help Himachal win off the final ball (50 off 37). Gangta hit three fours and two maximums before being run out, compared to Vasisht’s five fours and as many sixes.
Saurashtra vs Mumbai – 4th Quarterfinal

On Tuesday, November 1, at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Mumbai defeated Saurashtra by two wickets in the fourth Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 quarterfinal. Saurashtra chose to bat first after winning the toss in a tight match. In their 20 overs, they managed a difficult 166 for eight on the scoreboard.
Saurashtra was in trouble at 72/4 in the 11th over after losing Cheteshwar Pujara for 12 off 10 balls. Prerak Mankad’s outstanding 61-run innings off just 25 balls, though, helped the batting side. The blistering inning included three sixes and seven fours. Sheldon Jackson, a keeper-batter, also produced 31 points off of 37 balls. Tushar Deshpande claimed 3/37 for Mumbai, while Mohit Avasthi recorded 2/23.
Mumbai’s response saw them lose Yashasvi Jaiswal for 13 points and Prithvi Shaw for two. Chirag Jani’s lbw catch of the opposing team’s captain Ajinkya Rahane for 21 put them three down. Then, for the fourth wicket, Shreyas Iyer (40) and Sairaj Patil (31) scored 63 runs to lift Mumbai.
On November 3, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh will square off in the first semi-final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022–23. Vidarbha and Mumbai will square off in the second semifinal. The Eden Gardens will host both semifinal contests.
