It is a matter of extreme misfortune when a player is dropped out of a team not because of performance, but injury. Jhye Richardson went through a similar setback a few months ago but is ready to bounce back as he joins Australia Team in Srilanka.
According to his Western Australia coach Adam Voges, Australia pacer Jhye Richardson is totally healthy and ready to bounce back from the disappointment of losing his Cricket Australia contract.
After taking five wickets in his last Test match innings against England in Adelaide and playing in Australia’s last home T20I series against Sri Lanka, Richardson was perhaps the unluckiest player to lose his Cricket Australia contract for the next 12 months.
However, an injury-plagued summer that included calf and shin problems prior to Christmas, the latter of which kept him out of the Boxing Test, and a serious hamstring injury that kept him out of the Sheffield Shield final, as well as the remarkable rise of Scott Boland in his absence, saw him fall out of CA’s top 20 ranked players on the contract list. He was also left out of the Pakistan tour prior to his hamstring injury, as his workload was being closely monitored due to his recent injury history.
Since Pat Cummins is taking a break from cricket during the T20 series against Sri Lanka, it will give the lesser experienced players like Sean Abbott, and Jhye Richardson more time to learn in the middle. However, Australia may use two spinners among their four specialist bowlers if conditions allow. Jhye Richardson is only in the Sri Lankan T20I squad and isn’t in the ODI or Test teams, but he is part of the Australia A squad that will play two 50-over games and two four-day games in Sri Lanka.
Australia is touring Srilanka for a long one-month tour where the team will play all three formats. There is a 3-match T20I series, 5-match ODI series, and 2-match Test series. Players have shown support to Sri Lanka as the country is under an immense political and economical crisis.
