Rishabh Pant created history in the first day of the fifth test between India and England when he reached the landmark of 2,000 runs to become the youngest wicketkeeper-batter in the cricket history.

Pant achieved this milestone on the first day of the rescheduled match between India and England at Edgbaston.

While handling the struggling India pressure on his shoulder, Pant, 24, shot a four through mid-wicket in the 51st over bowled by speedster Matty Potty that helped the Indian vice-captain reach the landmark.

Pant and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the Indian ship when the visitors lost their five main batters for just 98 runs.

England, who won the toss, invited India to bat. Their decision turned out to be right when they dismissed   five of India’s main batters, including Virat Kohli inside 100.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who was promoted to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the absence of Rohit Sharma, failed to create any impact got on just 13. While Gill gone after scoring 17.

Hanuma Vihari, who came at one down, showed some signs of good knock but eventually got out after a 20.

However, the newly appointed vice-captain, Rishabh Pant and the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja then showed their class on the overseas soil one more time and took the struggling India to go past 300 mark.

Both did a 222-run partnership for the seventh-wicket. However, Pant then got out after scoring a sparkling 146 runs knock in just 111 deliveries. While Jadeja was still on the crease at 83* when the stumps on day 1 announced.

India will start the day 2 campaign from 338 for 7 with Jadeja and Mohammed Shami.

This test is a part of India versus England last year’s 5-match series, which India lead by 2-1.
