Nominations for Player of the Month Award
After a long November when the world collided to compete in the biggest T20 tournament, the World Cup, we have nominations for which player did the best. ICC has released their three nominations for the Player of the Month Award. The nominations feature two English and one Pakistani cricketer. Let’s find out who is on the list of Player of the Month Award Nominations.
Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler’s most memorable event of the month was leading his side to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victory, but he also had a huge impact on their road there by scoring an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls in the semifinal match against India.
With a performance that featured nine fours and three sixes and an unbroken opening stand with Alex Hales, England defeated India by 10 wickets to go to the T20 World Cup final.
Over the course of the four games he played, Buttler scored a total of 207 runs in T20Is, including two fifty-plus scores, one each against India and New Zealand.
Buttler sparked England’s aggressive start in the run chase in the last match against Pakistan, guiding them reach 43 in five overs. Earlier in the match, his outstanding leadership had contributed to limiting Pakistan to just 137/8 in the first innings.
Shaheen Afridi
With 11 wickets taken at an average of 14.09 and an economy rate of 6.15 at the T20 World Cup, Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan’s wicket-taking team after returning from injury.
On the penultimate day of the Super 12 phase, he had his greatest performance against Bangladesh in a game that needed to be won. The left-arm fast recorded a scorching four-over performance in which he picked up 4/22, earning him Player of the Match honours.
Shaheen also performed admirably in the semifinal matchup with New Zealand, giving up only 24 runs in four overs and taking crucial wickets of Kane Williamson and Finn Allen.
He struck early in the final with the significant scalp of Alex Hales once more, and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam said that his injury late in the game may have lost his team the championship.
Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid, who went wicketless in the first three games of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12, completely changed the course of the tournament in the final three games for England, contributing significantly to their championship win.
He had a standout performance as Player of the Match in the crucial Super 12 match against Sri Lanka, delivering a punishing spell of 4-0-16-1.
He dismissed the opposition’s star batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, in the semifinal match against India and produced another tight performance, allowing just 20 runs over the course of his four overs.
His most significant performance, though, may have been in the championship game when he quickly and consecutively removed Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam to end Pakistan’s innings. He had a maiden in the major game and finished with 2/22
