Biography of Naseem Shah

Naseem Shah Biography: Naseem Abbas Shah is a Pakistani cricketer born in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on 15 February 2003. Naseem Shah is a right-arm fast bowler for Pakistan who has been a consistent member of the Pakistan Test squad for the past 3 years recently, Naseem was included in the ODI team in the series against the Netherlands. Naseem Shah is also picked up in the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup in UAE. Naseem Shah is the youngest fast bowler to take a 5-wicket haul in Tests and also the youngest bowler to take a hat-trick in Tests. He is considered as one of the best young players in the International circuit in recent times. Naseem Shah plays for Quetta Gladiators in the domestic circuit of Pakistan.

Naseem Shah started off playing cricket at the early age of 5 years. Naseem used to play with his brothers and other players in the village. Initially, his father didn’t want him to play cricket and focus more on studies. However, his elder brother always appreciated his talent and eventually Naseem’s father gave the permission to play cricket. Naseem started off playing in a local club named Abdul Qadir Academy and in very less time he developed and nurtured the bowling skills. In Under-16 domestic tournament in Lahore, Naseem Shah played 8 matches and bagged 32 wickets and ended up as the leading wicket taker of the tournament.

At the age of just 15 years, Naseem Shah made his first-class debut in the Quaid-e-Azam tournament for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited in September, 2018. A month later, Naseem Shah also made his List A debut for the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited.

In 2018, Naseem Shah took 25 wickets in just 8 matches in the domestic tournament and again ended up as the leading wicket taker of the tournament. His consistency helped him in getting a place in the Under-19 Pakistan team and then in the national squad.

In 2019 edition of Quaid-e-Azam tournament, Naseem Shah was included in Central Punjab squad and then was also picked up in the National T20 Cup tournament in the same month and was also named as a player to watch by Pakistan Cricket Board.

Naseem Shah made his T20 debut in 2019 in the National T20 World Cup for the Central Punjab team.

In 2020, Naseem Shah was also initially included in the Pakistan squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup but his name was withdrawn as he became consistent member of Test squad by the time.

Naseem Shah was also roped in by Gloucestershire County Club to play in the English domestic season in 2022. However, he only managed to play a single match and was ruled out due to the shoulder injury.

Naseem Shah was also picked up in the squad of Welsh Fire for The Hundred in England.

Naseem Shah made his International debut for Pakistan at the age of just 16 years on 21 November 2019 in a Test match against Australia and took 1 wicket in the match.

Following his performance, Naseem Shah was also picked up in the Pakistan squad for the tour of Sri Lanka and played both tests on the tour. In the second

test, Naseem Shah registered his maiden 5-wicket haul in Tests and became the youngest fast bowler to achieve the record.

In February 2020, Naseem Shah became the youngest bowler to take a hat-trick in a Test. Naseem achieved the record in the match against Bangladesh at the age of 16 years and 359 days.

Naseem Shah was also included in the squad of Pakistan for the England tour in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.

Recently, In August 2022, Naseem Shah made his ODI debut in a match against Netherlands on 16 August 2022. In the 3 match ODI series, Naseem Shah picked 10 wickets and ripped the opposition with his lethal bowling skills.

Naseem Shah is also included in the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2022 in UAE.
