Iconic Lord’s To Host Next Two WTC Finals, 3rd Consecutive In England

According to the most recent International Cricket Council (ICC) conference, England’s iconic venue – Lord’s – was finalized as the venue for the next two ICC World Test Championship Finals.

Lord’s will host the finals of the 2023 and 2025 World Test Championships, making it the third consecutive final to be held in England.

The inaugural WTC final took place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. In that title match between India and New Zealand, the Kiwis created history by defeating the mighty Indian side in the pivotal game. The Lord’s Stadium in London, a legendary cricket site, was selected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host the finals of the World Test Championship after taking several factors into account.

The Future Tour Programme (FTP), which runs from 2023 through 2027 for both the men’s and women’s teams, was also accepted at the meeting; the schedule will be made public soon. 38 Test matches are reportedly on the schedule for India throughout that time.

The legendary Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, who most recently served as the team’s head coach, was named to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee as a current player representative alongside former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori. Besides Mahela Jayawardene, Roger Harper has been chosen to serve as the second former player representative on the committee.

At the same meeting, the Board also authorized the procedure for choosing the ICC’s next Chair, which will take place later in November of this year. Instead of the prior need for a two-thirds majority, the election will be determined by a simple majority. The Chair’s two-year term will begin on December 1, 2022, and end on November 30, 2024.

Although the ICC has not yet announced the date of the WTC final, which will take place the following year, it is anticipated that it will take place in June, just like it did last year. The summer season has already begun, thus it would be good to plan the tournament’s finals now. The Future Tour Program, or FTP, which will be released soon by the ICC will confirm the month in which it will be held.
