ICC Ranking: Babar goes down to the 3rd spot as Steve Smith overtakes him

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne retains his top position in ICC Ranking

International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the latest Test rankings. In which Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam lost his second position to Steve Smith. Also was demoted to the third spot. Let us look at details on ICC Ranking.

Babar Azam lost his position by just one point as Steve Smith overtook him after his 85 runs innings in the second Test match against South Africa.

Even though Babar Azam scored 161 in the first innings of the first Test match against New Zealand but it was not enough to protect his second place.

New Zealand’s former captain Kane Williamson gained two positions and came to fifth position after his double century against Pakistan. Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who had a car accident last week, lost his sixth place but still remained the highest ranked Indian batter in ICC rankings.

In bowlers’ ranking, Shaheen Shah Afridi managed to remain on the seventh place despite missing the Test series against England and New Zealand.

Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test update – 147/2(47 overs)

The lighting was insufficient for moving forward. Therefore, we think Australia will be content in the end. They dominated the day despite losing Marnus Labuschagne on the final ball. Australia made a wise choice to bat first after winning the toss. They lost Warner early, but Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja added 135 runs to stabilise the situation and seize total command before poor lighting became a factor.

On the other side, South Africa hasn’t done anything illegal. Although the host negotiated it well, they bowled well. Both wickets were taken by Anrich Nortje, who bowled with purpose. Given that the first part of the day was cleaned up owing to poor lighting. There isn’t much to distinguish between the two teams at this time.
