We have seen a lot of cricket in October. There were few innings that were outstanding and players who were in such a form, that was unforgettable. To reward the same effort, ICC has announced Player of the Month award.
The Nomination for the October Player of the Month Award are:
Men’s Players of the Month Nominations
The ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for October 2022 has a shortlist of three players, one from each of India, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Virat Kohli (India)
In the finest T20I innings Kohli has ever played. Kohli came up and delivered a game-winning hand of 82* from only 53 deliveries. In addition, the 33-year-old had a fantastic knock against South Africa in Guwahati at the beginning of the month, scoring 49* off just 28 deliveries and a cool-headed 62* from 44 pitches against Netherlands in WC 2022. The only hiccup was his dismissal for only 12 against South Africa in Perth.
Over the course of the month of October, Kohli collected 205 T20I runs at a staggering average of 205 and a fantastic strike rate of 150.73.
David Miller (South Africa)
David Miller has had an incredible run of form this year, and in October, he took it to another level. Miller began the month with a disappointing 47-ball 106* against India in a T20I in Guwahati, and he finished it with a match-winning 59* against Rohit Sharma’s team once more in Perth, this time on a significant platform like the T20 World Cup.
The left-hander scored his runs at an equally impressive strike rate of 146.37 and tallied 303 runs overall throughout this time at a fantastic average of 303. After several trying years, Miller appears to have rehabilitated himself and is now emerging as South Africa’s most reliable batter.
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)
For Zimbabwe in October, the seasoned all-arounder put up some outstanding all-around performances. Raza continued his strong run into the T20 Globe Cup and demonstrated his talent to the world.
He kicked off the month with a spectacular performance in their T20 World Cup first match against Ireland. Raza contributed to Zimbabwe’s early success by scoring 82 runs in just 47 balls and subsequently recording bowling stats of 1/22 in the encounter. Against Scotland, he continued to put up an outstanding all-around performance as he scored 40 runs off just 23 deliveries and then recorded numbers of 1/20 with the ball.
Women’s Players of the Match: Nomination
The ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award for October 2022 has three Asian players on its shortlist.
Nida Dar (Pakistan)
In the Women’s Asia Cup last month, the all-rounder gave Pakistan an outstanding showing. Dar scored 145 runs—at an average of 72.50—in six games. He also took eight wickets, each for a pitiful 14.87 runs. Throughout the tournament, Dar played a challenging batting position for Pakistan and constantly provided them with breakthroughs.
Deepti Sharma (India)
In the Women’s Asia Cup last month, the all-rounder once again shown why she is such an important part of the Indian squad. Due to her exceptional all-around performance, Deepti was also chosen as the Player of the Tournament.
Jemimah Rodrigues (India)
In the Women’s Asia Cup, the 22-year-old proved to be India’s finest batter, helping them win the competition. Throughout the course of the competition, Rodrigues accumulated 217 runs at a fantastic average of 54.25. She played against Sri Lanka and the UAE and scored two amazing runs of 78 and 75*, respectively. She was named Player of the Match in both games as India won both contests. Her two errors both occurred in precarious circumstances and gave India the advantage.
