Happy Birthday Mark Wood: Born on January 11th, 1990, Mark Andrew Wood is an English cricketer who competes for England in all formats on the world stage. He plays for Durham in domestic cricket and has experience with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

In 2015, Wood made his debut in the Test, ODI, and T20 International formats. He competed for England in both the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the 2019 Cricket World Cup. With an average Test pace of 89 mph since 2020, right-handed fast bowler Wood is currently among the fastest bowlers in the world.

Wood is based in Ashington in Northumberland, the same town as his hero Stephen Harmison is from. In contrast to Harmison or any other conventional English bowler.

Wood is unique, he is 6 feet tall, and is essentially a hit-the-deck bowler. He moves around, but his quickness generally allows him to outrun the batsman. The right-arm quick can bowl consistently at 140 kph or more and generate a good pace.

Early Start of Mark Wood’s Cricketing Life

Between 2008 to 2010, Wood played for Northumberland, where he began his professional career. He later joined Durham in 2011, and in just his first season there, he grabbed 19 wickets at a strike rate of 21.63, including a 5-for that helped Durham defeat Nottinghamshire.

Wood benefited from Paul Collingwood’s choice to foster youthful talent because Durham’s 2013 county championship victory was crucial. With 27 wickets at a 24.07 Avg, the fast bowler had a successful season.

First Call in the England Squad

A spot in the England Test team for the 2015 series against New Zealand was made possible by Wood’s steady performances. Wood took 14 wickets in his first four games, and his work rate was excellent.

Wood has been an important part of England’s limited-overs attack despite suffering from injuries frequently. He is the X-Factor in the attack because of his ability to shake up the batsman with pace.
