Do we need KL Rahul?

After sustaining an injury and testing positive for COVID-19, India’s KL Rahul is currently having a difficult time. Scott Styris, a former New Zealand cricketer, claims that KL Rahul’s absence provided players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and others with golden opportunities and that as a result, selectors are now debating whether or not they genuinely need the star batter. Rahul was selected for the T20I team for the series against the West Indies, however, he was disqualified after receiving a COVID-19 positive test a few days before the series began.

The players’ mentality has changed since they don’t want to be benched or give other players a chance. India, as far as I’m aware, has a really positive culture within its team, and as a result, it doesn’t mind giving other players opportunities all the time. As a player myself, I am aware that you would never want to let another person the opportunity to replace you, “on the SPORTS18 programme Scott Styris remarked

“So, with him now ill and out from the squad, it just means that other players are capable of doing what Suryakumar and Rishabh Pant are doing, which is to enter the fray, take the risk of scoring runs, and ask the selectors, “Do we really need KL Rahul?”

He has missed a lot of cricket, and many questions now arise solely because he was able to give other guys the chance,” he continued.

Rahul had an injury prior to the T20I series against South Africa, and he did not play in the five-match series. Rahul then tested positive for COVID-19.

Rahul released a long statement last week in which he said that after testing positive for COVID-19, his return to the international stage had been “pushed back by a few of weeks” but that he still intended to recuperate swiftly and be eligible for selection.

Rahul said the following on Twitter: “Hello, people. I wanted to make a few clarifications on my physical health and fitness. After a successful operation in June, I started training in the hopes of being able to serve again for my country during the West Indies trip. Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 just as I was getting back to full health.”

“This always delays things by a few weeks, but I strive to recuperate as rapidly as possible so that I might be chosen as soon as feasible. The biggest honor is to represent the national team, and I can’t wait to return to the field in blue “Added he.

India also unveiled their lineup for the next three-match One-Day International series against Zimbabwe, which starts on August 18. Shikhar Dhawan will be the team’s captain while Deepak Chahar has returned after overcoming an ailment.
