Here’s Why Yashasvi Jaiswal is backbone of India’s Test team

Yashasvi Jaiswal Batting in IND vs AUS Test Match BGT 2024

Emerging talent Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a memorable performance with the bat in the ongoing first test against Australia. He smashed his maiden Test century in Australia, from an overnight score of 90* off 193 balls. Jaiswal wasted no time reaching the milestone, hitting a stunning uppercut for a six in the 62nd over. This is his fourth century in Tests. He has been playing a crucial role in India’s remarkable comeback in the first Test of the five-match series against Australia.  Let’s look at Yashasvi Jaiswal Batting in IND vs AUS Test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Gameplay in the Border Gavaskar Trophy Series

With 17 wickets down on day one, everybody doubted India’s approach for the next sessions. However, KL Rahul (62*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (90*) batted superbly, guiding India to 172/0 at stumps on day two, commanding a 218-run lead. The conditions had eased, and Australia’s bowlers looked fatigued after dismissing India for 150. With the frustration mounting on Australia’s shoulders, Marnus Labuschagne introduced his medium-pace bouncers late in the day. The Indian duo batted steadily, taking calculated risks and running well between the wickets. Despite Australia’s efforts, including Labuschagne’s unconventional over, there was no breakthrough. Jaiswal, having learned from his earlier mistakes, was more patient and avoided unnecessary risks.

Can Jaiswal Be The New Star Of Test Cricket?

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s journey to international cricket is a story of hard work and dedication. Growing up in a middle-class family from Uttar Pradesh, he moved to Mumbai as a kid who dreamt of playing cricket. Overcoming hardships which included living in tents and selling street food, Jaiswal’s talent in domestic cricket caught the attention of the selectors. After shining in the U-19 World Cup, he made his Test debut in 2023, scoring an impressive 171 against the West Indies, and his unbeaten 214 against England remains his career-best, with a Test average of over 56 showcasing his consistency.

Jaiswal’s maiden century in the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy made him only the third Indian to score a debut century in Australia, joining legends ML Jaisimha and Sunil Gavaskar. This achievement solidifies his place in the Indian team, and his fearless, adaptable style ensures he’ll be a key player for India in the future.
