Players Out of BBL 2022-23
Mitchell Marsh of Australia and Phil Salt of England have both been ruled out of the whole BBL due to injuries. This is a serious setback to the Perth Scorchers’ efforts to defend their BBL championship. Let us look at Players Out of BBL 2022-23 here in detail.
Mitchell Marsh Out of BBL 2022-23
Marsh had keyhole surgery on his problematic left ankle and will now miss three months of cricket. He has had an ankle injury for a number of years. He reinjured it in August during Australia’s ODI series against Zimbabwe. This was keeping him out for more than a month. Additionally, it hindered his ability to prepare for the T20 World Cup and limited his bowling options.
The timing of Marsh’s operation will give him a chance to recover in time for Australia’s next ODI tour of India in March.
Phil Salt Out of BBL 2022-23
During the third and final ODI match between Australia and New Zealand last week in Melbourne. Salt suffered grade-two ligament damage to his left shoulder. He was concussed while diving to preserve a boundary. As a result, he was taken off the field. His arm was in a sling in the locker rooms following the game to preserve his shoulder. Upon his return to England, he saw a shoulder expert. He advised him to skip both the BBL and the Abu Dhabi T10 competition.
Faf Du Plessis as Laurie Evans Substitute
Laurie Evans was already gone from the Scorchers after his contract was terminated due to a positive drug test. Before Evans left for South Africa in January to play in the new CSA T20 league. Scorchers brought in South Africa’s Faf du Plessis for a seven-game stay as a temporary Evans substitute.
Fast bowler Jhye Richardson, who missed Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against Queensland this week owing to a bruised heel, is anticipated to be healthy for the start of the BBL. He is in Perth Scorchers too.
Scorchers Look For Marsh and Phil Replacement
The Scorchers’ general manager Kade Harvey said the reigning champions will search for further Marsh and Salt replacements.
Harvey talking about losing two players said.”Losing Mitch and Phil so close to the start of the season is very disappointing. Mitch is one of the best ball-strikers in global cricket with an incredible BBL record, and his leadership and presence around the group is enormous.
“Phil has proven his class for England and in T20 tournaments around the world, so it’s unfortunate he won’t pull on the orange this summer.
“We’re under no illusions about how difficult it will be to cover the absence of Mitch and Phil, but we take pride in the depth of our squad and have a lot of players capable of stepping up.”
