Ben Stokes, in full Benjamin Andrew Stokes (born on 4 June 1991 in Christchurch, New Zealand) is an English left-hand batter and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Stokes has proved himself as one of the most important assets for the English side in past few years. He has been a part of the English side in all three formats of Cricket.

Recently, Ben Stokes is appointed as the full-time captain of the England Test team. Stokes has many records under his name and is wildly considered the best all-rounder of the decade. Stokes started playing cricket at the age of 12 years when his family moved to England. He grew up in a town of Cockermouth and did his schooling from Cockermouth school. During his school days, he helped his team in winning many titles. At the age of 15 years, he started playing Division cricket and won North Lancashire League back in 2006. He gave some magnificent performances for his club and college and was part of many titles that his teams won.

In 2009, Stokes call his maiden call up for his domestic side Durham. He made his debut at The Oval and took a wicket on the third delivery. He was included

in the test series against Bangladesh Under-19 team. He showed his all-round skills during the series and helped his team in winning it.

Ben Stokes was then included in the English squad of Under 19 World Cup in 2010 where he smashed a century against India.

In the same year, Stokes made his first-class debut for Durham in Abu Dhabi. He smashed a half century on his debut. In 2010, he made his county debut against Essex. In May 2010, Stokes scored his maiden first-class century. Within a year, Stokes became a permanent member of Durham in all formats. He had a very impressive Debut season.

In 2013, Ben Stokes was a part of the Durham team that won County Championship.

In 2014 Royal London Cup, he emerged as the star player for his side and led them to win the title by giving some good all-round performances.

After showing his all-round skills in the domestic circuit, Stokes was included in the English squad for an ODI against Ireland. Ben Stokes made his debut in August 2011 against Ireland. However, he just scored 3 runs in the match and didn’t get a chance to bowl. A month later, Stokes made his T20I debut against West Indies.

In 2013-14, Ben Stokes was called in the England Test squad for the Ashes. He made his test debut in the 2nd test of the series but didn’t performed well. In the 3rd test of the series, Stokes smashed his maiden Test century. In the 5th test, he took 6 wickets in the first innings. However, England lost the series by 5-0 but Stokes ended up as the third leading run-scorer of the series.

In an ODI series against Australia in 2015, he ended up as the leading run scorer for his side. In the test series against Pakistan, he took 4 wickets in the first test as well as scored a half century and helped his team to draw the match.

In a Test series against South Africa in 2015, Ben Stokes scored his career best 258 runs in the first innings of the second test including 11 sixes. He made the record of fastest double century in tests as well as the highest 6th wicket partnership in tests along with Jonny Bairstow. In the final test, Stokes took 5 wickets.

In 2016, he was included in the World Test XI and World ODI XI.

In 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, Ben Stokes scored 299 runs and 7 wickets. He was also picked up in the Team of the tournament.

In 2019, Ben Stokes was included in the English squad for ICC Cricket World Cup. Stokes was the most important player in the squad as he helped them in winning the title for the first time in the history. Stokes scored 465 runs in the tournament and also picked 9 wickets.

In 2019 Ashes, Stokes emerged as the leading run scorer for England. He scored 441 runs and also picked 8 wickets in the Ashes.

He was named as the ICC Player of the Year in 2019.

In July 2021, Ben Stokes announced an ‘indefinite break’ from cricket. However, he made a comeback in the Ashes in 2021-22.

Recently, on 28th April 2022, Ben Stokes has been named as the full-time captain of red ball cricket for England.

Ben Stokes was roped in by Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL season 2017. He scored 316 runs in 12 matches including a century and a half century.

In 2018, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals as the most expensive player of the season. However, the season didn’t go well for him.

In 2020, Ben Stokes scored his 2nd IPL century. In next season, he got injured during the 1st match of Rajasthan Royals and was ruled out of the tournament.
