Indian former cricketer, Saba Karim believes that MS Dhoni’s and many other Indian legends’ jerseys should be retired by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Karim, who is one of the ex-selector, remarked that the move should be seen as a gesture of appreciation for those who have given their all contributions to Indian cricket over the years.

In terms of Dhoni, he is still one of India’s best effective captains at the top standard. He led India to all 3 ICC Trophies in limited-overs competitions from 2007 to 2013. Dhoni turned 40 on 07’ July, Wednesday and he was showered with birthday greetings from the cricket community.

Saba Karim Requests BCCI To Retire MS Dhoni’s Jersey No.7 As Mark Of Respect

“I think not only MS Dhoni’s jersey, but the BCCI must also preserve the jerseys of many other Indian legends. They must also ensure that the jersey number of that legend is not worn by anyone else,” said Karim.

“In this manner, one can recognize the achievements and the contributions of the greats of Indian cricket. Most importantly, by doing so you give some much-deserved respect to such legends,” he stated.

‘By Doing So You Give Some Much-Deserved Respect To Such Legends’: Karim

Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, having last worn the national jersey in the 2019 World Cup semi-final. He has, however, kept playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to predictions, Dhoni might still play a few more seasons before retiring from all forms of cricket.

“Although he is no longer part of international cricket, I hope he can continue serving Indian cricket, just like he did all these years. He is grooming a lot of youngsters with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). I wish he keeps mentoring and guiding young players at the state level as well. If that happens, it will be great for the future of Indian cricket,” Karim added.
