The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a separate India team that will play Sri Lanka in three ODIs and as many T20Is, all of which will take place simultaneously with India’s tour of England. Shikhar Dhawan to lead India as BCCI announces squad for SL series.

In all six games of the white ball, the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium will take place in Colombo. While an official decision is required, given the Covid-19 circumstance and the recent disasters experienced by the IPL and PSL 2021 seasons, it is quite doubtful that crowds will be permitted.

The ODI series begins on the 13th of July, with the next two matches planned for the 16th and 18th of July. The three Twenty20 Internationals will be held on July 21, 23, and 25 in respectively.

Shikhar Dhawan to lead India on Sri Lanka tour, six uncapped players named in 20-man squad

After impressive domestic cricket tenures and the Indian Premier League 2020 and 2021 seasons, opening batters Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, pacer Chetan Sakariya, and spinner K Gowtham have all received their maiden call-ups, while the board confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as his deputy.

As many as five players have been named as net bowlers: Ishan Porel, Sai Kishore, Arshdeep Singh, Sandeep Warrier and Simarjeet Singh.

The majority of first-choice players are away from the Sri Lanka tour team

Another team of Indians will face England in an away series of five Tests, in one of the unusual cases of a national team being part in several international events. With a number of first-choice cricketers such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and a few others occupied with domestic responsibilities in the UK, the BCCI has picked a second-string squad, but it does not appear to be anyway.

In the absence of India’s head coach Ravi Shastri, and both Vikram Rahtour and Bharat Arun, Rahul Dravid is set to coach the team.

India’s squad: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana, Sanju Samson (Wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (Wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Krunal Pandya, K Gowtham, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Vice-captain), Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya

Net Bowlers: Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Sai Kishore, Arshdeep Singh, Simarjeet Singh.
