The IPL Mega auction in 2022 was one of the big talking points this year. There were many players who broke the bank. The biggest beneficiaries though were the all-rounders. As they are a category of players who are less in supply but always in demand.
The rise of a few players lately has garnered a lot of interest among IPL franchises. They are set to be the biggest gainers in the upcoming IPL Auctions. A lot of them stand in line to gain a maiden IPL contract.
We look at a few such players who will fetch a maiden IPL contract:
#3 Harry Brook
He is young in his international career but Harry Brook has great potential already. Brook showcased top quality against a solid Pakistani bowling lineup. Coming in at number 5, he has almost made the place his own. Brook strikes at 151.5 in the 10 innings he has played so far at an outstanding average of 43.3.
An overseas player who is good against spin is absolute gold dust. Teams like CSK who are looking for a major revamp might look closely at someone like Brook. It will be interesting to see how many teams vie for Brook in the auctions.
#2 Dasun Shanaka
He has had a sensational run in the last few months. Dasun Shanaka was expected to make his way into the last season of IPL itself. But he was ignored at the mega auctions. Shanaka though has continued his merry run. He keeps scoring important runs for Sri Lanka against quality opposition.
Shanaka is a handy bowler too who chips in with crucial wickets. He was one of the big factors behind Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup triumph. Shanaka is familiar with Indian conditions. He will be quite a handful in the IPL. Franchises searching for that batting allrounder will be keenly tracking him in the upcoming auction.
#1 Cameroon Green
The most exciting prospect in recent times is none other than Cameroon Green. He is someone who walked into the T20I after primarily playing Test cricket. Green made his international Test debut amidst huge hype. It took him over a year to justify all the expectations around him. He then walked into the ODI side with decent success. But it just took him 3 T20Is to cement his status as one of the hottest properties in international cricket.
Green took everyone by surprise when he walked in as the opener in the series against India. He was hell-bent on smashing every ball for a boundary. Green was Australia’s biggest positive in the series. To see him dominate Indian bowling in these conditions has surely made people take notice. There is little doubt that he will be the most expensive player in the upcoming auction.
