England’s national selector, Ed Smith, suggested that Adil Rashid, despite no longer having a red-ball county contract, may still be in consideration for a spot in England’s test team. Rashid, 32, is England’s first-choice legspinner in white-ball formats but hasn’t been featured in a first-class game since featuring in the Caribbean’s first Test of the series in January 2019. He last played in september 2017 for his county, Yorkshire. Yet despite the fact that Smith had previously said Rashid “must have a deal to play red-ball cricket” to be qualified for selection, he has now made it clear that he is open-minded about a Test recall.
