Women’s Indian Premier League broadcast rights sold for ₹951 crore

Viacom18, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd. Has picked up media rights for the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) for ₹951 crores.  The Deal is for the next five years. The company will pay a per match value of ₹7.09 crore during 2023-27. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Monday. Let us look in detail at Womens IPL broadcast rights.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in a tweet, congratulated the broadcaster and said it was a “massive win for women’s cricket”.

It is expected that the five teams for the first edition of WIPL will be revealed on 25 January.

Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings are all franchises owned by Reliance. Hyderabad’s Sunrisers and Rajasthan Royals. Its inaugural season is anticipated to start in early March, and Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans have expressed interest in bidding for the franchises.

The BCCI made the decision to auction the media rights first for the first time this time. because it will make it possible for potential club owners to determine their business plan based on anticipated profits from the media rights agreement. The BCCI will evenly distribute 80% of the proceeds from ground sponsorships and media rights among the five teams.

A non-refundable cost of around 5 lakh rupees, excluding taxes, was required to access its invitation to tender (ITT). Up until the end of 2022, it was possible to purchase the ITT procurement process. Only those who met the qualifying requirements as outlined in the ITT and other terms and conditions were allowed to submit a bid, it had stated. It further stated that no one was granted the right to bid just by obtaining this ITT.

The Women’s IPL (WIPL) auction 2023 is likely to take place on February 11.

The base price of the inaugural auction of the WIPL has been divided into five categories ranging from INR 10 lakh to INR 50 lakh. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set a deadline for the registrations for the auction to be on January 26.
