WBBL 2022: Sydney Thunders Women Beat Perth Scorchers Women by 25 Runs

ST-W Vs PS-W Match Highlights

In the battle between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunders, the visiting team emerged winner by 25 runs. At Perth, Sydney Thunders batted first to post the total of 166 for 4 in 20 overs. The host team, Perth Scorchers failed to chase the target. They were restricted to 141 for 9. Let us look at WBBL 2022: ST-W Vs PS-W Match Highlights in detail.

Sydney Sets Big Target

The team’s opener Beaumont scored a scintillating 77 off 59 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. From the other end, the batters kept on rotating. They all scored in double figures and that helped team build a respectable total. Phoebe Litchfield failed as she scored 14 off 17. Any Jones replaced her to score 18 off 12. She hit 3 fours in the innings. It was power-hitting from Olivia Porter in the end that escalated things quickly. She hit 17 runs off 6 balls. The innings included 2 fours and a six.

Perth’s bowlers failed to restrict the batters. Only three of 6 tested bowlers, Ferling, Mills, and Kings, took 1 wicket each. Kapp was the only economical bowler for Perth with an economy of 5.50.

Perth Scorcher’s Failed Chase

The team looked bland in front of the dominating Thunders. They totally lacked character while batting and lacked intent from early on. Only Kapp and Alana King scored 20+ runs. The wickets fell at regular intervals and it was impossible for Perth to have any partnership.

Lauren Smith completely dominated the innings with the ball. She took 5 wickets in four overs giving away just 17 runs. It was everything Sydney needed to restrict the Scorchers. The batting team looked dull in front of her bowling. Apart from her, Sammy-Jo Johnson took 2 wickets in her four overs. Though she gave away a lot of runs. Samantha Bates and Lee Tahuhu took 1 wicket each for the team.

For her much-deserved performance, Lauren Smith received the Player of the Match Award. She overpowered Beaumont’s 77 runs knock in the first innings.

Both the teams will play their next matches tomorrow itself. Sydney Thunders will take on Melbourne Stars. While Perth Scorchers will take on Hobart Hurricane. Both matches will take place in Perth.
