AUS Vs WI Day 1 Update
AUS Vs WI: Australia Bat Like Beasts
David Warner was cheaply lost when they decided to bat. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne had to bat patiently; they steadied the ship as they made it unharmed to lunch. There was a little bit of support for the pacers, but nothing overly significant. During the session, batting became simpler, as the two Queensland batsmen recorded their corresponding half-centuries.
With the first pitch of his new stint, Kyle Mayers unexpectedly broke the 142-run stand by removing Khawaja with a superb out-seamer. Smith joined Marnus, and the two made it through a tense fifteen or so minutes before tea.
AUS Vs WI: Last Session Run Machine
However, the two run machines scored easily in the last session. Labuschagne hit his eighth Test century, and Smith reached his 37th fifty in the longest format while using a significantly different batting approach. Even with the second new ball, the Windies pacers struggled valiantly and failed to make a breakthrough in the last session.
AUS Vs WI: Marnus Labuschagne, Man of the Moment
Talking about Team’s Performance and his own. Marnus Labuschagne looked jubilant. He said, “When you finish the day at around 300 for 2, you’ll feel good. It was nice to build partnerships throughout the day. Helps to come from Brisbane (home ground), the conditions are pretty similar here, you can understand the conditions better when compared to Adelaide or Sydney. It was all about the process, build your whole game around it and don’t worry about anything else. My wife and my daughter Hallie made this trip down to Perth, it’s her first day at the cricket and it was nice to get a score in front of them.”
WI Vs AUS: Day 1 Analysis
For Australia, opening days of games and series don’t come much earlier than that. Labuschange and Smith lift their bats as they depart to warm applause. There seem to be many more runs available for this duo. After the early lift of getting rid of David Warner, launching their onslaught on a pitch that could get a bit quicker tomorrow, Australia will have their sights set on 500+.
West Indies had a difficult day. They had some successful stretches in their bowling, and with a little bit more luck, they may have added a few more wins, but they did falter in the second half of the day. Before West Indies will start off quickly in the opening hour with a ball that has only played eight overs, but it’s a long way back from there.
