What went wrong for MI in IPL?

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians had a disappointing season, finishing at the bottom of the points table with only four wins from 14 matches.

Their season ended on a low note with another defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday. Following this loss, skipper Hardik Pandya acknowledged his team’s struggles in the IPL 2024 season and expressed optimism for the next season.

In a post-match interactions with the broadcasters, Pandya stated, “This season was quite difficult as we didn’t play good quality cricket, and it cost us dearly.

What went wrong for MI in IPL: In professional sports, there will be good and bad days. As a group, we failed to play quality and smart cricket, which was evident in our results. It’s too early to pinpoint exactly what went wrong tonight, but the whole season was off. We need to move past this game and look forward to the next season.”

Notably, the MI management had replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Pandya, who was brought in from Gujarat Titans, faced significant opposition from MI’s loyal fanbase, often being booed at the Wankhede Stadium and other venues across the country.

What went wrong for MI in IPL: In their final league match, LSG secured a convincing 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians. Nicholas Pooran led LSG’s batting with a 75-run knock, helping his team post 214/6 in their 20 overs. In response, MI failed to chase down the total despite notable performances from Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir.
