T20 World Cup Super 12 Scenarios

Following a comprehensive win over Namibia on Tuesday, team Netherlands now aiming to beat Sri Lanka in their final qualifiers match to advance for the Super 12 stage. Let us look at T20 World Cup Super 12 Scenarios in detail.

Having tasted success against UAE in the first match, and after defeating Namibia in their second, the Dutch side is currently on no.1 position in their group with one match to go.

The top-2 teams among the group will qualify for the Super 12 stage, starting October 22.

Netherlands aim to win final qualifier

After registering a solid win over Namibia, the skipper of Netherlands hinted towards their aim of winning the third game.

“We are known as a side that plays hard till the last few balls. We did well in terms of front-loading the runs. Knew that Namibia has some good death bowlers in these conditions. It got a bit closer than we would have liked, but it is still good. It is about now winning that third game of cricket,” said Edwards in a post-match presentation

Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup

On the other hand, Sri Lanka, who before the tournament were seen as the most possible team to qualify without any trouble witnessed a roller-coaster in their campaign so far.

In the qualifiers opener on Sunday, the Shanaka-led side faced a 55-run defeat from Namibia. The defeat was a big upset for the recent Asia Cup Champions.

Last month, Sri Lanka defeated top teams like India and Pakistan to become the Asia Cup winners in 2022.

But, a loss against the 14th-ranked side in the world was nothing sort of a big upset for them. However, in their second match they bounced back and claimed a 78-run victory over UAE to regain confidence.

Still, they are in third place with 2 points and a net run-rate +0.600 points. While Netherlands are at the top with 4 points and a net run-rate of +0.149.

Both teams will meet on Thursday for the big clash at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong.

ICC T20 World Cup Group A scenarios

If Netherlands managed to win the game against Sri Lanka, then they would immediately advance to the Super 12 due to maximum points on table.

And Sri Lanka will advance if they triumph. But, their win doesn’t eliminate the Dutch side. Netherlands’ fate will therefore be determined by the outcome of the Thursday encounter between Namibia and the United Arab Emirates.

Namibia currently having better run-rate than both Sri Lanka and Netherlands. And Shanaka’s side have better run-rate than Edwards’ side.

Additionally, if Namibia defeats UAE then they will qualify alongside Sri Lanka (only if they wins over Netherlands).

And in any chance if Namibia failed to beat UAE, they can still qualify, if Netherlands upset Sri Lanka, as the net run rate is on Namibia’s side.

Both the games on Thursday will be crucial as they will decide which teams will join the Super 12 phase, and play the main event alongside the top-8 teams in the world.

Australia and New Zealand will square off in the first match of the Super 12 round on Saturday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
