Shubman Gill has failed to impress everyone and lost the golden opportunity to cement his place after a dreary performance in the fifth rescheduled test against England. Here we talk about Shubman failed in Rohit-Rahul absence ends England Series In Disappointment.

Indian management showed trust on Gill and allow him to open the innings alongside mighty England but he walked back to pavilion after making a steady start in both innings.

In the first innings, he scored 17, while in second innings he only recorded 4 runs. Both the times he was caught in slip while facing James Anderson.

In the absence of team India’s designated openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, there was a lot of expectations from Gill to score good runs at the top of the order but he failed to do so.

However, he did good in Australia in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar series that’s the reason he was part of squad because of having experience playing in overseas conditions against big teams.

But in the fifth and final Test versus England Gill didn’t showed any signs to score big and got out cheaply in both the innings.

Why Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul missed the England test?

Earlier, team India’s all format skipper was ruled out of the fifth test due to COVID-19. In place of him, team management appointed Jasprit Bumrah as the captain.

While KL Rahul, who witnessed a groin injury early last month was also forced out from the squad.

This fifth match is a part of last year’s 5-match series between India and England, which India lead by 2-1. The final test was postponed due to deadly Corona outbreak. And later both boards, BCCI and ECB mutually decided to complete the series when India visit England for the white-ball fixtures in 2022.

Rohit Sharma was the highest run-scorer for India in the first four games. He scored 368 runs at an average of 52.57, including one hundred.

While KL Rahul was just behind Rohit and overall third in scoring most runs in the series. He posted 315 runs in 8 innings at an average 39.38.

In the absence of both the designated openers, team India tried with Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara.
