In the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Kohli was asked to open the innings alongside acting captain KL Rahul. The pair put India in the driving seat and placed Afghanistan under immediate pressure with an amazing 119-run stand.
In the early going of the innings, Kohli batted with a solid strike rate, and in the slog overs, he just shifted into fifth gear to crush Afghanistan’s bowling lineup. The run-machine Kohli also overtook Rohit Sharma (118) as the highest individual-scorer for India in T20Is with his 122-run knock.
Kohli became the fourth Indian player after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul to score hundreds in all three forms.
With his century, Kohli equalled Ricky Ponting as the second-highest century-maker in world cricket and is now just behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
