Lovlina Borgohain won a Bronze medal for India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after falling short in front of Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli in the women’s welterweight semis. Lovlina became the third Indian to win a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for India. The Indian boxer paved her way to semis but was completely outplayed by the Turkish in the welterweight (64-69kg) category. Busenaz Surmeneli was declared the winner via unanimous decision on 4th August, Wednesday. Let’s look at Lovlina Borgohain vs Busenaz Surmeneli Highlights.
Lovlina Borgohain vs Busenaz Surmeneli
Borgohain became only the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal after Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom. Surmeneli dominated Borgohain 5-0 in the first round to grab an early advantage. Borgohain tried her best to come back from the hefty deficit but failed in the process.
Lovlina was also reduced to a point for launching a punch on Surmeneli while the referee was separating the fighters. Surmeneli won the second round as well and held Lovlina in the third round to book her place in the finals. Surmeneli will be up against China’s Gu Hong in the final after the latter defeated USA’s Oshae Jones in the semifinal.
