World Cup 2023 Semifinal Qualification Scenarios
The ICC Cricket World Cup is on its business end, and we have now just one week left to witness who’s going to be the four teams to play the semi-finals.
India registered their eighth win in a row after beating South Africa by a huge margin of 243 runs at the iconic Eden Gardens.
Team India, with this win, will end the league stage as the top placed side and will play semi-final 1 on Wednesday, November 15.
South Africa is the second best team, who already booked their berth for the semis, and probably finish second or third on the points table, depending on their last game performance.
All eyes now on the third and fourth places, as we have 4 teams in line to book those spots.
Australia (10 points), New Zealand (8 points), Pakistan (8 points), Afghanistan (8 points).
Australia
Australia only having a game ahead of them and if they managed to win against Afghanistan on Tuesday, then they will book their berth quite comfortably.
New Zealand
After starting the contest with 4 straight wins, New Zealand is now on a losing streak with back-to-back 4 losses, with they yet to face the struggling Sri Lanka on Thursday, a win for them may hand them the last berth’s ticket to semis.
Pakistan
The men in green made a remarkable comeback in the multination event after losing 4 games in line, and now sitting in fifth spot. They will face already eliminated England on Saturday, and they need to win by a big margin to make their way to the semis.
Afghanistan
Afghanistan has been phenomenal in the competition, having defeated defending champions England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Netherlands.
The Afghan side still has two games ahead of them, but their road to victory will not be that easy, as they have to Australia and South Africa.
While Sri Lanka, currently in eighth place, and Netherlands on ninth are also eliminated from the tournament, but they a loose play in their last game of the tournament will ruin their chances to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Bangladesh with two and England with one win in 8 games each are also already eliminated from the mega tournament.
