Hardik Pandya selection
After waiting for clarity on the fitness status of Indian player Hardik Pandya, the national selection will pick the squad for the New Zealand tour this month. The National Selection Committee is to select India’s ODI and Test team.
The officials stated that there would be not too much discussion regarding the selection of the team. But Hardik Pandya needs to be healthy and fit. When National Cricket Academy allowed Hardik to play competitive cricket, he will be a choice automatically. A senior BCCI official said that the selectors are okay for waiting for some more days.
If in case Hardik Pandya is not fit, then there might be a chance that the selectors may give Suryakumar Yadav a chance.
Selection of Rahul for the squad
KL Rahul’s good form in the Test matches makes him a preferred choice in the Test squad. Rahul has been India’s most consistent player in both ODIs and T20 but after the tour of Australia, he lost his place in the Test squad.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli said that it would be hard to leave Rahul from any squad. As the player has a better possibility than Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw, he was the reserve Test opener in the home series last season.
Other changes in selection
Some other changes in the Test squad could be Navdeep Saini selected as an extra fast bowler rather than Kuldeep Yadav as the third spinner. Only one among Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin will be selected in playing eleven.
There are more chances of preferring Ajinkya Rahane because of his better technique over Kedar Jadhav who is not performing so well.
BCCI said Kedar Jadhav was not going to play the World Cup 2023 and would not also bowl now. Since the player is not in T20, there is no point in carrying him to New Zealand.
