Katherine Brunt new record

Katherine Brunt became the leading wicket-taker for England in T20Is during the second T20I against South Africa at Worcester on Saturday.

Brunt achieved this feat after she clean bowled Laura Wolvaardt to edge past Anya Shrubsole and secure her 103rd wicket in the T20 Internationals.

What happened in ENG Vs SA match?

The high-voltage game saw South African openers dominating the game with 102 for zero on board in 14.1 overs. But suddenly when Laura Goodall walked back into the pavilion the team collapsed with Brunt taking the sixth wicket of South Africa’s line to become the highest wicket-taker bowler for England in T20Is.

The 37-year-old finished her spell with one for 24 as England restricted South Africa to 148 for six and later chased down the target in 19 overs with six wickets in hand to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Brunt now has 103 wickets in 98 T20Is with an average of 18.7 and economy of 5.52. Shrubsole, who announced her retirement from international cricket in April, has 102 wickets from 79 matches while averaging 15.55 and economy of 5.95.

She now holds the record for the most wickets for England in T20I matches for both men and women’s cricket, with Chris Jordan taking the top spot among men with 88 wickets in 78 games.

With 125 wickets in 117 matches, Anisa Mohammed of the West Indies tops the list for most T20I wickets in women’s cricket. Brunt is fifth on the list.

While Brunt is the leading wicket-taker for England in Women’s ODIs too, and fifth overall with 170 wickets. She retired from Test cricket in June and has 51 wickets in 14 matches, the third-most for England in the longest format.

The final match of the series will take place at County Ground in Derby on Monday, July 25.
