On Sunday, September 26, Indian batsman Virat Kohli became the 5th batsman in T20 cricket history to surpass 10,000 runs. The accomplishment was done by the 32-year-old while performing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore versus the Mumbai Indians at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The captain accomplished the milestone by smashing a massive over-boundary off pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Virat hit Bumrah for a 6 over the square leg area in the 3rd ball of the 4th over. The batsman didn’t have complete control of the shot, yet he was able to pass the boundary with comfort. The Delhi-born batsman also smashed the pacer for a 4 over the fine leg zone in the following ball. Virat, the RCB captain, accomplished the milestone in the 312th game in his T20 career.
Virat doesn’t really have the best of performances in the Indian Premier League 2021. Despite his team’s consistent performance, Kohli is looking better with the bat in hand. Nonetheless, the reality is that he is the IPL’s all-time leading run-scorer, who cannot be questioned. Virat nearly scored 1000 runs in a single IPL season in 2016.
Virat Kohli joins the list in reaching 10000 runs in T20 cricket
He joins West Indies’ Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle, Australia’s David Warner, and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, in reaching 10000 runs in T20 cricket. Gayle, 42, of Jamaica, became the first hitter to reach the milestone. The left-hander has almost 14,000 runs in the T20 format, with 22 hundred and 87 fifties.
Pollard then arrived at the structure. Even though Gayle is a member of the Punjab Kings, captained by KL Rahul, Pollard is the MI squad’s vice-captain and will captain the side only when Rohit Sharma, their regular captain, is unavailable. Malik, 39, was a member of the Delhi Daredevils, now the Delhi Capitals, in the opening season of the IPL.
Furthermore, Warner is playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the present IPL. He was also sacked as Orange Army captain earlier this year, and Kane Williamson stepped as a replacement. Amongst some of the latest crop of hitters, Rohit and Aaron Finch are on the approach of surpassing 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.
