T20-WC: Chakravarthy Is My First Spinner For India – Dasgupta

Cricketer-turned-analyst, Deep Dasgupta is very pleased with India as well as KKR spin bowler Varun Chakravarthy and believes he could be the team’s 1st pick as a slow bowler for the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup. In the present Indian Premier League (IPL), the mysterious spinner was once again at his best, picking up 2 wickets for only 26 runs versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Here is all about what Dasgupta Speaks On Chakravarthy.

Chakravarthy has been outstanding for KKR this season, picking up 15 wickets in 13 IPL 2021 games. He has also kept tight boundaries and lengths while conceding runs at only 6.73. His clever variations, also approaching with strategy, have made it difficult for the teams to keep up. Chakravarthy was chosen for India’s T20 World Cup team due to his mystery aspect and X factor abilities.

Dasgupta examined his KKR exploits and feels that in the present form, the mystery spinner should be able to get a position in India’s starting XI.

“For me, if you are picking one spinner apart from (Ravindra) Jadeja, who will play as an all-rounder, my number one spinner at this point in time is Varun Chakravarthy,” the former cricketer said during an Interaction.

I just hope Varun Chakravarthy is fit enough and raring to go: Dasgupta

Varun Chakravarthy is among five spinners in India’s T20 World Cup team. His fitness levels seemed to be a problem recently because he has been out of the team owing to shoulder and knee concerns. Dasgupta believes that one of the issues that could be a problem for the 30-year-old in the long term is fitness.

“My only concern is his fitness. He has struggled in the last six eight months with his fitness – knee, shoulder. I just hope he is fit enough and raring to go. But at this point of time, he is my first spinner to go on that list,” he admitted.

In terms of the contest, KKR defeated SRH by 6 wickets with 2-balls to play. Other than Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi and Tim Southee each took a couple of wickets to limit SRH to 115. With this victory, KKR moved up to 4th position on the standings, with 12 points.
