T20-WC: BCCI Transfers Its Ticketing Rights To The ECB And OC

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Transfers its Ticketing Rights to  Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and Oman Cricket (OC) for hosting the ICC 2021 T20 World Cup has been revealed. On Monday, September 20, BCCI’s Apex Council met to participate in a discussion, and members of the board were briefed on the situation.

Surprisingly, the board has chosen to hand over the big event’s ticketing rights to ECB and OC. The two boards will now receive all of the money collected from the ticket sales. The event was initially scheduled to take place in India, but because of the COVID-19 concern, it was moved to the Middle East.

BCCI is paying ECB a fixed fee of USD 1.5 million (from hosting fee of USD 13.5 million) and operational costs of USD 5.5 million which will be covered by ICC. The total fee payable is USD 7 million. BCCI has transferred its ticketing rights to the ECB and all revenues generated out of the sale of match tickets will be retained by the ECB,” a BCCI official said.

The BCCI has also formed a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee the event’s smooth operation. The committee is made up of BCCI members, with a few ECB staff members added to the mix. The qualifying round and the main draw are the two phases of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Two sets of 4 teams will participate in the qualifying round. One group will compete in Abu Dhabi, while the other will compete in Muscat, Oman. The top 2 teams from each of these 2 groups will advance to the main round, where they will be divided into 2 groups of 8 teams. All of the main round games will be held in the UAE, at 3 different places Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.

The amount OC would receive for staging the 6 matches in Muscat was also revealed in the report. “The BCCI is hosting 6 matches in Muscat. BCCI is paying OC a fixed fee of USD 400,000” the BCCI official told.
