The team’s batting performance was led by Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 83 runs off 127 balls, followed by Dinesh Chandimal with 61 runs off 150 balls and Angelo Mathews with 50 runs off 111 balls. The skipper, Dhananjaya de Silva, also made a valuable contribution, adding 40 runs from 77 balls.

In the second innings of the 1st Test match, New Zealand faced a target of 275 runs.
