On day 4 of the match, Sri Lanka resumed their innings at 237/4. However, their wickets fell quickly due to the exceptional performance of New Zealand bowler Ajaz Patel, who took 6 wickets for 90 runs. Patel’s impressive display caused Sri Lanka to lose their middle and lower order. Ultimately, Sri Lanka managed to score 309 runs in their second innings after losing 10 wickets in 94.2 overs.

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings

Sri Lanka posted a total of 309 runs in 94.2 overs. The team’s batting performance was led by Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 83 runs off 127 balls, followed by Dinesh Chandimal with 61 runs off 150 balls and Angelo Mathews with 50 runs off 111 balls. The skipper, Dhananjaya de Silva, also made a valuable contribution, adding 40 runs from 77 balls.

On the bowling front, New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel stood out, taking 6 wickets while conceding 90 runs. William O’Rourke also made an impact by claiming 3 wickets, and Mitchell Santner chipped in with a wicket as well.

New Zealand 2nd Innings

In the second innings of the 1st Test match, New Zealand faced a target of 275 runs. Rachin Ravindra played a remarkable innings, scoring 91 runs off 158 balls, and will resume batting on the 5th day. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson contributed 30 runs off 46 balls, and Tom Blundell scored 30 runs off 43 balls.

On the bowling side, Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya both took 3 wickets each, while Asitha Fernando and Dhananjaya de Silva chipped in with 1 wicket each.

End of the Day 4: SL vs NZ 1st Test

At the Day 4 stumps, New Zealand’s bowler Ajaz Patel and batter Rachin Ravindra delivered outstanding performances, allowing the team to seize control of the game. New Zealand had managed a score of 207/8 in 68 overs.
