Former Team India selector Sarandeep Singh has joined in on Ravi Shastri’s views over the 2019 World Cup team selection. Shastri has previously stated that he cannot really understand India heading into the huge event with 3 keepers, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, and Rishabh Pant. He also stated that he “had no say” regarding Ambati Rayudu’s removal from the lineup. Here is what Sarandeep Discusses Shastri’s View On 2019 WC Team Selection.

Vijay Shankar was chosen in Rayudu’s replacement because the selectors considered the former to give us a lot of versatility owing to his all-around ability. Singh, who was on the selection committee alongside MSK Prasad, supported Shastri and concurred with what the former India head coach would have to add. Singh, a former national cricketer, stated that Shastri took no involvement in selection discussions.

We never had different thoughts with Ravi Bhai and he is a good coach: Sarandeep

Sarandeep said – “Ravi Shastri is right that the coach does not have any say in the selection meeting but the selection committee goes to the ground, speaks to the captain and head coach, and tells them about the plans and we also ask what they want. If there is any player you are asking for. If you look at the last few years, we are winning almost every bilateral series,”

“He can say anything to Virat about what he wants. Sometimes it happens that we feel differently but at the end of the day we are always on the same page. For four years we never had different thoughts with Ravi Bhai and he is a good coach also. He listens to us all the time. So, suddenly if something like this came up, we always sat together and were always on the same page,” he added.

India performed admirably in the tournament’s league edition, losing just to England. Unfortunately, New Zealand upset them in the semi-finals at Old Trafford in Manchester, in a match that had to be played over 2 days owing to poor weather. The event was also Dhoni’s penultimate for Team India before retiring in August 2020.
