Ross Taylor Announces Retirement From International Cricket

New Zealand’s cricketing Giant, Ross Taylor has announced his decision to retire from international cricket. The experienced batsman will face his final Test series versus Bangladesh in January 2022, whereas the ODI series versus Australia and the Netherlands next year will be his final limited-overs participation. Taylor is widely regarded as one of Kiwis’ best hitters. The right-handed batting great is New Zealand’s all-time leading run-scorer with One-Day Internationals (ODIs) 8581 runs and in Tests 7584 runs.

Taylor announced his retirement on Twitter. The cricketing legend further added that he is proud to have represented his country for 17 years on the international stage.

“Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more Tests against Bangladesh, and six ODI’s against Australia & the Netherlands. Thank you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honor to represent my country #234,” tweeted Ross Taylor.

Ross Taylor also stated that all wonderful things must end at some point. Taylor thanked his family and friends for their support, saying that it is the perfect moment for him to retire from the game. The 37-year-old ended by saying that he will now concentrate on preparing for the forthcoming summer in New Zealand.

“But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me. I want to thank my family, friends, and all those who have helped me get to this point. There’ll be plenty of time for more thank-yous and reflections later in the season – but for now, I want all my energy and focus to be on preparing and performing for the Black Caps this summer,” said Ross Taylor in a statement.
