Rohit Sharma toss losing streak
Winning the toss may not guarantee victory but losing it repeatedly can be frustrating for any captain. So Let’s take a look at Rohit Sharma toss losing streak.
India’s Rohit Sharma found himself at the wrong end of luck once again as he lost the toss for the 12th consecutive time in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in Dubai. With this, he equaled the long-standing record held by West Indies legend Brian Lara, who endured the same fate between October 1998 and May 1999.
Rohit’s streak of bad luck began on November 19, 2023, and has continued for nearly 16 months, making him the most unfortunate captain in recent times when it comes to calling the coin right.
Notably, this also marked India’s 15th straight toss loss in ODIs, adding to the team’s woes. While the toss is only a small aspect of the game, it often plays a crucial role, especially in conditions where dew, pitch behavior, or weather factors come into play.
Before Rohit, former Netherlands captain Peter Borren had suffered 11 consecutive toss losses between 2011 and 2013, while England’s Jos Buttler and USA’s Monank Patel have also had streaks of nine straight defeats at the toss.
Despite these toss setbacks, Rohit has led India successfully in recent years, but this streak will surely be one he would want to end as soon as possible. With the Champions Trophy final being another instance where the toss might have played a part in the match’s dynamics, the Indian skipper will be hoping for a change in fortune moving forward.
