BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla Nominated By Congress Party For Rajya Sabha

Rajeev Shukla, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Chhattisgarh, has said that he has an opportunity to ponder retiring from his position on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shukla’s function would now fall underneath the BCCI constitution regulation that prohibits a workstation from assuming government positions. This rule was established so that an office-bearer cannot also hold a public post. Here in this article, we talk about Is Rajeev Shukla to resign from the BCCI Vice-President role?

When questioned whether he was required to step down from his position with the BCCI, Rajeev Shukla said that he is now merely an MP-elect and that his tenure has still not yet begun. “My term will start only next month. The elections are held early and the swearing-in takes place next month,” said Shukla.

“I would like to thank Congress president Sonia Ji, Rahul Ji, and Priyanka Ji for putting their faith in me by nominating me for Rajya Sabha. I will do my best to strengthen the party”, Shukla’s tweet read.

“OFFICE BEARER means the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer, and Page 29 elaborates on that stating: “A person shall be disqualified from being an Office-Bearer, a member of the Governing Council or any committee or any similar organization if he or she… is a Minister or Government Servant or holds a public office”, BCCI constitution states.

The following responsibilities belong to the vice president, according to Rule 7.2: “The Vice-President shall officiate in the President’s absence when the President is unavailable; The Vice-President shall exercise such functions and duties as he may be empowered with by the General Body or the Apex Council.”

Following the resignation of Mahim Verma of Uttarakhand at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in December 2020. Shukla, 62, was chosen vice president without facing any opposition.

Shukla is an experienced BCCI administrator who has served in a variety of positions, including that of chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the elections held every two years for the Rajya Sabha, which took place on Friday (June 3), he campaigned on the Congress party ticket and won the election without facing any opposition. He will serve in the Upper House for a total of 6 years during this tenure.
